In the late 60's, Dundee musicians Robbie McIntosh & Mike Fraser were in a band called The Senate, and were based in Italy for quite a while.
They had released recordings by that time, but in 1969, the band were told they had to make an album of Beatles & Rolling Stones songs. The idea actually came from the producer who worked for RCA Italia.
The band hated the idea but were legally obliged to do the album before getting out of the contract.
Their lack of enthusiasm, however, could be measured by the fact that they completed the entire album in only 2 days.
Beatles on one side of the vinyl, Stones on the other side, and it was released in Italy only.
When finished, The Senate didn't want anything to do with it..!!

In 1978, a punk band called The Dispozest formed in London which included 2 Dundee guys - drummer Jim Grieves and bass guitarist Johnny Nicoll.
When the band were in rehearsal studios, the action was captured on film and became part of a homemade punk movie called "We're No Angels".
A snippet of the rehearsal footage was later inserted into a Scottish music documentary called "Rip It Up".
The Dispozest were quite short-lived, however, and the pair came back to Dundee.
In 1979, Jim joined local punksters, List-D, and Johnny became a member of another local outfit called The Cut-outs.

This is the moment Mike Kane and co were told it was time to "pack up" by the police.
Mike and his friend from America called tENTATIVELY a cONVENIENCe, were busking in Murraygate outside John Menzies, when the police were called by some people who complained about the noise.
This "noise" was deliberate, however, as the guitar was being played through a specially built busking unit filled with all sorts of effects gadgets.
Mike didn't play tunes as such, but used the guitar to trigger a variety of interesting sounds instead.
It wasn't to everyone's taste needless to say.!!
And this entertainment took place in summer 1988.

Edwyn Collins & Paul Quinn were in the same school class at Morgan in the early/mid 70's.
Then 10 years later, they were in the same photo on the cover of UK music magazine, Record Mirror.
Both ended up connected with Glasgow's Postcard Records of course - Edwyn with Orange Juice and Paul linking up with The Jazzateers who transformed into Bourgie Bourgie.
The reason they are front page news here is because they had just released a single together - a cover version of Lou Reed's "Pale Blue Eyes".
I've accompanied the mag with the cover of the single - Paul on one side, Edwyn on the other.
