This advert for a compilation album called "Streets" was published in a fanzine in December 1977.
It was one of the first records to compile examples of new wave music released on independent labels from around UK. Dundee band, Drive, is one of the acts showcased. Also in December 1977, in a different fanzine, it published a list of that years highlights on a month by month basis, and the Drive single is in the August section, it being one of the first Scottish independent new wave singles released at the time. |

When The Associates released their Sulk album in May 1982, it went straight in at number 31 of the national album charts.
A couple of weeks later in June, it had reached number 6.
The title "Sulk" is referred to by everyone in its normal definition (a moody huff) but if you apply a Dundee dialect to the word, sulk becomes SILK.
Just take a look at all that shiny cloth on the album cover.
Billy could have said "Ach ehm awa' tae sit doon on a' that sulk efter drinkin' a pint o' mulk".

Here's a quirky background story about Dundee act, Millions Like Us, dated April 1986.
The guy who sent the demo tape to Circa Records was John O'Kane. Millions Like Us was basically John, but when he signed for Circa he teamed up with a guy called Jeep Hook to record the album in the USA in 1987. John has stayed in the States ever since and has gone on to record a few solo albums in the 90's as well as become a composer-songwriter for other well known acts. Bit of a strange start to his career though with the Dundee Courier sending out an S.O.S. |
