This photo was taken around the time they were making the Schemers film.
On first glance, the display of posters featuring some Retro era bands playing gigs, looks authentic, but a closer inspection reveal they are ALL FAKE, except for the Motorhead one middle right.
Here's the lowdown on the duff stuff.
LEFT to RIGHT...
Marryat Hall (Skids) - Friday 4th November 1977 - impossible, support acts Pulsebeat Plus & Waiter Waiter formed in early 1980's.
Bloomers (Rezillos) - Wednesday 12 April 1978 - impossible, Bloomers wasn't in existence yet, the venue was called Samanthas in April 1978.
Bloomers (Associates) - Thursday 18th May 1982 - impossible, Bloomers burnt down in Feb 1980 and didn't reopen. 18th May 1982 was a Tuesday. Fire Engines split up in 1981.
Bloomers (Stax) - Friday 19th December 1980 - impossible, Bloomers burnt down in Feb 1980 and didn't reopen.
Bloomers (Simple Minds) - Friday 21st May 1980 - impossible, Bloomers burnt down in Feb 1980 and didn't reopen. 21st May 1980 was a Wednesday.
The Astoria (Exploited) - Saturday 13 August 1984 - impossible, 13th August 1984 was a Monday.
Bloomers (Skeets Boliver) - Saturday 31st October 1977 - impossible, Bloomers wasn't in existence yet. 31st October 1977 was a Monday.
Teazers - Thursday 25 October 1979 - (Can't see band name so could be ok.)
Caird Hall (Motorhead) - Sunday 2nd November 1980 - Genuine.
What do all the fake posters have in common?
GROUCHO RECORD SHOP.
It states on them all (except the Caird Hall poster) that tickets are available from Groucho record shop - but there's no mention of Bruce's record shop or any other genuine ticket outlet.
The ones with Groucho on are all completely meaningless.
So they are background props, not real posters.

I did a piece on Retro Dundee mentioning that Thynglchyme were once on Opportunity Knocks in 1971, but didn't put up a photo.
So here they are in June 1971. They were a kind of manufactured act, in that, they were all playing in separate groups - then their manager, Jim Smart, plucked out one member from each band to form Thynglchyme. The guys were not interested in "doing their own thing", they just wanted to be a commercial pop act. However, appearing on Opportunity Knocks didn't lead to anything happen for them in the pop charts. |

A photo of The Ferguson Play Group taken at the Rendezvous, Union Street, in 1962.
George Ferguson was the musician, vocalist Eve Graham (Perth lass), used to sing for at the Rendezvous in the early 60's. She then went to live in London in the mid 60's, joined the New Seekers a few years later and had a worldwide smash hit with "...Teach The World To Sing". |

Local jazz legend, Jimmy Deuchar, with one of his regular Sunday jazz sessions along at the Sands in February 1981.
These lunchtime meet-ups usually ended up as jam sessions, with anyone from the crowd welcome to join in. On one occasion, a pianist from America was in the crowd and so took the band up on the offer to jam with them. He turned out to be the father of jazzy superstars, the Brecker Brothers! |

Punky new wave band, Quick Spurts, once had a double-page spread in Fife fanzine, Kingdom Come.
Photos, potted history and a future gig date at Ardler Community Centre, all part of the article which appeared in June 1978.
A few months later, they get another mention, only this time it's an announcement that the band had split up!

Deepwater Disco started up in 1974 and ended in 1983.
The name Deepwater was taken from a track by Grapefruit, which was also used to make the Deepwater jingle. Although main man, DJ Brian Wilson, had a residency at Tech College Students Union (aka Bowlin' Alley), he would often take Deepwater Disco out on the road, midweek and holidays, and one such stint was at the Golden Pheasant in March 1977. |

This is a typical kind of gig The Poor Souls would have - this one at the Masonic Hall, Crieff, in September 1965.
However, this show was not your typical night out with the band, because during their performance, and incident happened in which main man, Doug Martin, ended up later, being fined for assault! Their van was also vandalised after the gig. No encore that night then! |

A promotional photo for Wichita, a band who had a residency at The Palais, 1972-74.
They played Fridays & Saturdays, which meant they could also play elsewhere on Sunday's and through the week - for example, Liverpool was one of the other cities often on their gig rota. The ad is from 1972. In 1971, they were another band from Dundee who made it onto Opportunity Knocks. |

Vintage movies managed to influence a couple of Dundee bands, decades later.
August 1948 had the film "Forever Amber" on at the King's. Then in the early 70's, local act, Forever Amber cropped up on the scene. January 1952 had the movie "Meet Danny Wilson" on at the Gaumont. 3 decades later in the mid 80's, Dundee band, Danny Wilson appeared on the scene. |
