INTRO...
An A-Z index of local performers & DJ's who were on the go during the 3 "Retro Dundee" decades...
The acts are separated into 60s-70s-80s and listed in alphabetical order.
Stating the rather obvious, ignore the "The" part of a bands name for letter sequence order - eg: The Frieze Band are under "F".
Similarly, ignore the first name of a solo performer - eg: Bill Stott is under "S".
A band with a person's name - eg: Danny Wilson, is under "D".
Although the acts are in 3 different decade zones, a few crop up in more than one - eg: The Melody Makers are in the 60's & 70's.
It's impossible to state the exact lifespan of every band so I have given each act a "single" date beside them instead. These dates are taken from published sources and are just there as a guide to let you know when the acts were "definitely" in existence, rather than just give a vague 'mid/late' style guide. Of course, most acts would have been around for more than a single year, but at least you're guaranteed to know for certain when they were present, with the clear-cut date that confirms it.
Some are listed in italics - this depicts acts that are not Dundee "based", but have a strong local connection - eg: Average White Band.
The DJ's & mobile discos are in A-Z and single date mode too, but not separated into different decades.
The Andy Lothian section has lots of items associated with his work in the music biz.
There is a scrapbook area as well, for all sorts of published articles & trivia pertaining to some of the acts.
This is a vastly more comprehensive guide to the acts that appear on the main Retro Dundee blog, as it includes pub & social club performers in amongst the more well known names.
You'll also see by the quantity involved as to why I couldn't give every act an individual mention on Retro Dundee.
Like the rest of my sites, this one too is ongoing and will be updated whenever I find fresh information.
You only need to read this intro once - so now it's time to click onto the stars below and have a little rake around...
