This is local band, Jih, in 1987.
Singer, Grant, explained their name came about because he wanted something with "J" in it so that it could be "Jih, Jam & Journalism", after the demise of the Dundee jute factories. Grant had also been a roadie with Iggy Pop and worked with Billy Mackenzie. Line-up is, L to R - Grant McNally - Chris Leigh - Rick Lane - Neil Pact. |

One of Dundee's first punk-style bands called Bread Poultice & The Running Sores.
They did treat the scene with a touch of humour, so not quite a full-on angst & rage punk act as such, but presented a kind of rebellious cabaret stage performance. Played locally at venues like Art College, Bowling Alley, Ambassador, and were rather popular in Edinburgh too. On the go in 1977 - 78. |

Klass posing for a photo before jetting off to Los Angeles to play a few gigs promoting a single they released in the States in 1989.
In an article in the local press, they said that their single called "Walking Down The Straight Line" was "attracting large advance orders" and would "appear in America's national chart", however, there is no evidence of this mysterious single documented anywhere on the internet! |

It's the 9th November 1961 and Dundee's, Jimmy Deuchar, has a gig at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
As you can see in the ad, The Beatles were playing there the previous night. The 9th November 1961, however, is a special date in the history of The Beatles because the Fab 4 also had a lunchtime gig at the Cavern that day, and in the crowd was Brian Epstein. A couple of months later, Brian secured a recording contract with The Beatles, and the rest, everybody knows about! Oor Jimmy was already a recording star by then of course..!! |

Another Dundee act who has played at the original Cavern Club in Liverpool is, Sleaz Band.
They gigged there 2 nights on the trot actually, on 24-25 June 1973. On the 2nd night the advert states that "They are so great we just had to bring them back". In July 1974, Sleaz Band released their debut single, and in one of the English newspapers it received single of the week status. The thing is, the big headline that it got refers to it as "punk rock" - this was 2 years before the term was embraced as a music genre in itself! |

A photo of Kevin Murray published in 1986.
Kevin has played in quite a few local bands - Zero DB, Woollen Mill, Cunning Stunts, Mafia, Celtic Jazz, Havana Swing, and probably some others. He has played on quite a few recordings too, as a backing musician and as a solo artiste. His first solo album called "The Pole" was released in January 1986 in cassette format as a limited edition. |

Susan Childe was well known in town during the mid 70's - mid 80's period due to regular local gigs with her disco band (Flamingoes).
Here, however, are a couple of rare TV appearances she made during that era.
The first one (left) is dated November 1979 and she is in the company of fellow dancefloor personalities on a show called The Best Disco In Town.
The second one is dated March 1982 and she is in the company of rather lightweight entertainers on a show called It's George.
Not so sure the second one was a particularly good career move!
